The Fernhurst Centre is both a Community Centre and Internet Cafe run and managed entirely by volunteers. It has lots to offer including:
A varied refreshment menu including Cappuccino - Latte - Cafetiere - Fruit Teas etc
Broadband internet, WI-Fi - no booking required
All computers have a wide range of software
A3 colour printer
A range of courses both IT and leisure
Help Point - free telephone direct to Council Offices to report problems or request assistance.
Don't forget - Broadband usage is Free after Three! Printing charges will still be made.
Have you recently bought an iPad and would like a little help - we have a new course 'An Introduction to using your iPad' setting up - connecting to WI Fi and much more besides. Two 2 hour sessions at £20. All our courses scheduled for February are now full therefore our next course is Tuesday15 and 22 April from 0930 - 1130. Book now to secure your place on this very popular course.
If you haven’t got and iPad but have a Tablet using the Android system we have a course for you. 'An Introduction to using your Android Tablet'. Again the current courses are all fully booked and the next course will talk place on Wednesday 16 and 23 April at 0930 - 11.30. This is a new course and is proving as popular as the course for iPads so book now to avoid disappointment. Please note that this course is not suitable for the Kindle Fire or phones using the Andriod system.
Setting up your own Webpages using Word Press: Want your own website but have been put off by the difficulty and/or cost? This course is designed to introduce you to the steps necessary to design and upload your own website. We use Word Press who provide a fairly straightforward route to designing and hosting your own website free of charge - Three week course at £35 on Thursday 27 March and 3 and 10 April from 7.30 - 9.30 pm.
Painting with Wool: An Introduction to The Art of Woven Tapestry - Tapestry weaving can be used to produce beautiful wall hangings using a simple frame loom and a variety of yarns. Traditional and 3D techniques will be explored to produce a “woven notebook”. All equipment will be provided, including a simple frame loom which can be kept (£7.50 per frame). Students should bring a notebook and camera (if possible). This workshop will take place over five weeks ie - 5 x 2 hour sessions at a total cost of £50. At 2 pm - 4pm on Friday 28 Ferbruary - Friday 4 April (with a week's break on Friday 14 March) . New - Get Hooked on Crochet: If you don't know one end of a crochet hook from the other then this is the course for you! Learn the basic techniques and stitches, under the watchful eye of Christine Asbridge. This course is a series of three 2-hour workshops, at a total cost of £30 (including hook and wool). Three consecutive Wednesdays 915 - 11.15 am 23 April - 7 May. The workshop fee is payable direct to the tutor but places must be booked in advance at the Fernhurst Centre.
